The MillRight CNC Router is located in the Rapid Prototyping Shop
What is it?
A CNC router that carves wood, similar to the X-Carve but beefier and faster. If you are new to CNC, consider starting with the X-Carve simply because it's Easel software is simpler.
Software Toolchain
- Toolpath Generator: VCarve-Pro or Aspire Generates GCode files based on designs created or files imported e.g., .SVG files from InkScape, or .DXF files.
There's a licensed/paid version on the MillRight's laptop (no password required) but demo versions can be downloaded and used at home for designing, composing and learning. Use the GRBL post to create GCode for use in UGS.
- Machine control: UGS - Universal Gcode Sender Accepts a GCode file to control the MillRight GRBL controller. Provides jogging, zeroing and runs cutting jobs.
The V-Carve + UGS combo provides roughly the same functionality as Easel on the X-Carve but Easel is simpler, with less capabilities.
Equipment
- MillRight CNC Power Route
- Working Area: Approximately 25×25×5 inches (Gantry Clearance is 5.5″, Total Z Stroke is 6.25″)
- Assembly instructions
- Dewalt DW618 speed chart, 8k to 24k RPM
